Raney’s HB 1682 Enhances the Safety of Children in Licensed Day Care Centers

Health and Human Services Commission

(AUSTIN, TX)  Today, Rep. Raney (R-Bryan/College Station) participated in a press conference hosted by Children at Risk and joined by fellow Senate and House colleagues to discuss support of safe, quality child care

HB 1682, authored by Raney, would direct the Health and Human Services Commission’s child care licensing representatives to complete a short survey during their on-site inspections, documenting the number of children and caregivers present in the classroom and the age group of children present.

If passed into law, the data collected will be instrumental in helping policymakers shape important legislation for years to come to ensure that all children in licensed day care will have a safe and supportive learning environment.

“There were 88 deaths in the past ten years at day care facilities in Texas and 450 cases of sexual assault,” Rep. Raney said. “By collecting this additional data, we can make better informed decisions when it comes to establishing safeguards from these atrocities against our most precious citizens.”

Representative Raney is currently serving his fifth term in the Texas House of Representatives. He serves on the House Committees on Transportation and on International Relations and Economic Development. He is Deputy Floor Leader for the House Republican Caucus and is a long-time community member and business owner in Bryan-College Station.
