Local Artist Designs District 14 Ornament for Texas House Christmas Tree

Austin, Texas – To celebrate Christmas at the Texas Capitol, Representative John Raney presented an ornament designed by local artist John Grant of College Station to represent District 14 on the Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree inside the State Capitol.

The ornament, entitled “The Drummer Boy,” depicts a young drummer in the Brazos Valley of District 14. As he plays his drum in celebration of Christmas, he dreams of one day marching in the “Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band” at Texas A&M University.

Mr. Grant was asked to decorate the District 14 ornament in a way that showcases the unique character of the district. More of his work may be seen at www.grantartistry.com.

The District Ornament Project was initiated in 2009 to give all of the Texas communities a place on the Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree, a 20-foot native Texas tree that stands in the Chamber of the House of Representatives. The ornaments were placed on the tree on November 30, 2012, and will hang through January 2, 2013. The collection, which showcases the beauty and diversity of our state, is seen and enjoyed by thousands of Capitol visitors each holiday season.
